What a fast week this has been. SantaLand opened on Friday, December 4th and I am already almost halfway through the run. Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company decided today to add two shows so I wanted to spread the word. The run has only a few seats left!
You can buy tickets online to the remaining shows at the Dairy Center for the Arts.
So far the Boulder press has been very generous.
BETC went to Jared, so to speak, when it picked Geoffrey Kent to star in SantaLand.
A seasoned actor well known to Anglophiles for his work with the Colorado Shakespeare Festival and to Boulder theatre lovers in general for his many successful performances around the region, Kent gives us a measured but vibrant David. His timing is impeccable, and his delivery and characterization never falter. He wonderfully balances the more arch moments of SantaLand with the occasionally sincere ones, which is no easy task. His approach to David feels very naturalistic and is a boon to the production. Full Story
Kent`s humor runs dark, for sure. But his Crumpet is not overly dour or grumpy as he tramples through SantaLand, riffing on stories of the strange human creature he encounters in the store. He`s boyish; more of a grin-through-the-pain kind of elf. Kent seamlessly dashes in and out of the dozens of characters Crumpet deals with on the job. Full Story
With Kent at the helm, BETC’s production is raucous and maniacal. He’s a physical actor who takes over the whole stage to tell the tale of David...Kent is taller than the average elf and his performance is big and strong yet skillfully subtle and Kent is likable even in his most menacing of rants. Rebecca Remaly (SantaLand director) and I recently paid a visit to KGNU where we had a brief interview and I read a short preview of "SantaLand." You can listen to that piece here.
I'm also writing a holiday blog for BETC about SantaLand Diaries if you want to hear my elf (elven?) musings.
Well that is probably enough from SantaLand. Just 13 performances left before I wring out the tights for the season and pack my bags for Eventide and Othello at the Denver Center. Hope to see you soon.
PS: If you haven't seen it yet, I'm most excited about our candy cane viral video...
